Mit “Collections”, also Sammlungen, testet Facebook eine neue Funktion, die zu einer Konkurrenz für Pinterest werden könnte. Damit verlinken Unternehmen Bilder auf Facebook direkt mit ihrem Online-Shop. Anstelle eines “likes” können User hier “want” klicken. Die Objekte der Begierde werden in einer Wunschliste gesammelt und leiten den Nutzer direkt in den Verkaufsbereich weiter.

Absurdität oder Bedrohung? Angesichts der nun mehr als einer Milliarde Nutzer weltweit könnte das Netzwerk damit zur Gefahr für jeden Online-Anbieter werden. Dabei muss das Gigantennetzwerk nicht einmal die gleiche Qualität des Dienstes erreichen: Die Masse alleine reicht schon aus, kleinere Seiten und deren Geschäftsmodell zu vernichten. Allerdings ist Facebook schon an einigen Projekten, die nicht zum Kerngeschäft gehören, gescheitert.

Agenturen wie Mindshare sind sogar der Meinung, dass e-Commerce nur außerhalb von Sozialen Netzwerken stattfinden kann. Die Investoren haben wegen des Kursverfalls der Aktie Interesse an einem Erfolg der Shop-Funktion. Aber auch Konkurrenten und Social-Media Experten sind neugierig, ob es Zuckerberg gelingt, neue Wege der Monetarisierung zu erschließen.
